According to an analysis by 24/7 Wall St., within last 6 months Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and the companies that sell applications for the iPod touch and iPhone at the App Store have lost more than $450 million to piracy. Apple takes 30% of the revenue generated by the App Store, that means the company has lost about $140 million. But how do people still apps?
The iPhone can be “unlocked”, that means the phone has modified software (the OEM Apple iPhone OS). Pirated software on unlocked iPhone allows the user to get out of the limitations put on the phone by the producer. The modified OS allows to customize icons, backgrounds, functionality, it is even possible to use an unlocked iPhone for access to carrier services other than AT&T . It also permits the installation of apps from sources other than the iTunes store.
